"The act of creating shifts me to a very peaceful place where time and space dissolve."
Always an artist the medium may change... Creator of 'Get A Grip Stoneware' a unique conversation starter for any beverage you choose which has finger divots scattered over the surface giving the user a grip on the tumbler. My goal is to create functional pieces to be fun, enjoyable, and a pleasure to use.
I have been involved in some form of art my entire life, charcoal & pencil sketches, stained glass, painting, photography, ceramics, and playing guitar. The collage is a self-portrait I created several years ago. I simply love the creative process, both the ups along with the downs, which are great learning experiences.
Currently, I am using stoneware clay as my primary medium pulling in aspects, ideas, and techniques I have learned or discovered over the course of my entire life. I like to create pieces that you want to pick up, that somehow attract you to them. I have always challenged myself to come up with a unique way or twist on something very common. I allow each piece to have a voice of its own, sometimes the clay wants to do something totally different then what I had planned.
I design my Functional Ware to be used, tumblers, mugs, bowls, etc. I use high fire Stoneware clay and food safe glazes to insure the Functional Ware I create is food safe, dishwasher safe, and can be used in the oven or microwave.
I also create Sculptures which have been inspired by a particular object or emotion. Some are glazed and some are made out of Terracotta clay which allows you to put essential oils directly on the clay using the sculpture as a passive diffuser. I have also moved my ceramic art to the wall which has opened up a lot of possibilities, along with some challenges.
I have a passion for photography and live in the foothills of North Carolina.
